Union Threatens Brussels Airlines Strike Over Tel Aviv Crew Rostering

Belgian union ACV Puls has announced a strike notice covering Brussels Airlines flights to Tel Aviv, effective from 1 September. The union says the airline is compelling crew members to operate the route rather than relying on volunteers, despite what it describes as significant concerns about physical safety and the psychological and ethical impact of such flights.

The union argues that mandatory rostering under current circumstances conflicts with the employer's duty to protect staff from safety and health risks. It does not share the airline's assessment that the security situation is sufficiently safe. It cited a previous incident in which a rocket struck the grounds of Ben Gurion Airport shortly before a flight's scheduled departure.

ACV Puls also noted that Belgium's foreign ministry advises against non-essential travel to the region. In 2025, Brussels Airlines used voluntary crews and paid bonuses, but according to the union, the airline could not find enough volunteers. Flight tracking data shows Brussels Airlines operated four rotations between Brussels and Tel Aviv in August, its first since February, and the route is expected to become more regular in September.

The airline told the Brussels Times that it had not yet found a resolution with the union at the time of reporting.
