Hermeus licensed to build F100 engines for F-15 and F-16

Pratt & Whitney has issued Hermeus a production licence for the F100-PW-229 engine, creating an additional manufacturing source in the United States for the military powerplant. Hermeus is to build the F100 to Pratt & Whitney's quality and safety standards, according to the companies. Neither firm gave figures for planned output or a date for the start of production.

The F100 has powered the F-15 and F-16 for decades and has accumulated more than 32 million flight hours. Hermeus also uses the engine for its unmanned supersonic demonstrator Quarterhorse, which the company says exceeded the speed of sound for the first time in early 2026.
