Horizon Aircraft CEO says eVTOLs not the real rival, orders five Cavorite X7s

Horizon Aircraft CEO Brandon Robinson said the company's hybrid electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, the Cavorite X7, will compete with helicopters rather than other eVTOL designs. Speaking at the Farnborough Airshow, Robinson said the aircraft's speed would let it shake up the helicopter industry. A former Royal Canadian Air Force CF-18 Hornet pilot, Robinson said the company is building a full-scale prototype expected within six to nine months, after completing half-scale testing.

Horizon announced an order from Australian startup V Star Powered Lift Aviation for up to five Cavorite X7s, with an option for 95 more. Robinson said Horizon could have pre-sold hundreds of aircraft but chose to partner with experienced operators. V Star operates Bell helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft in Australia, according to Robinson.

Robinson said the partnership was about working with people who understand operational details and route lengths. The full-scale prototype is expected in the next six to nine months.
