IndiGo in talks with Embraer and ATR about regional aircraft

IndiGo's new chief executive says the airline is looking at buying regional aircraft from Embraer and ATR. Willie Walsh confirmed the talks in London at the World Airline Awards, after the company had earlier denied them.

Any order would either add to IndiGo's ATR 72 fleet or replace part of it. The carrier operates 44 ATR 72-600s, each seating 78, of which 36 are in service according to Planespotters.

IndiGo's assessment is that Embraer's E2 jets could fill the gap between the turboprops and the larger Airbus A320 on regional routes with stronger demand. Which Embraer model is under consideration, and how many aircraft might be ordered, remain open. No decision has been announced.
