Istanbul Airport to open fourth runway

Istanbul Airport is preparing to open a fourth runway, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expected to attend the ceremony, according to the Turkish airport operator DHMI.

Istanbul Airport will open a fourth runway. DHMI, Turkey's airport operator, said President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected to attend, though no date was given.

The runway runs east to west, 2,820 metres long and 45 metres wide. In early September, the Turkish transport ministry said work was in its final phase, and that the runway would enter service once technical tests were completed.

Three runways at the airport already handle simultaneous independent operations.
