Air traffic control strike cancels 40 flights at Brussels Charleroi
Nightly air traffic controller strikes have forced the cancellation of 40 arrivals and departures at Brussels-Charleroi airport, with the action set to run until 10 October unless a pay dispute is resolved.
Forty arrivals and departures were cancelled at Brussels-Charleroi airport on Thursday, 17 September, after air traffic controllers stopped work overnight. Flights at the airport were suspended between 10pm and 8am.
The disruption carried into the daytime schedule because some aircraft could not complete their planned rotations before the nightly suspension began.
The industrial action is expected to run for 24 nights, continuing until 10 October. The dispute concerns night-shift allowances.
According to the airport, more than 830 flights and as many as 150,000 passengers could be affected if no agreement is reached before then.
