Tocumen airport reports 15% passenger growth through August

Tocumen International Airport, Panama's main air terminal, recorded 15,855,759 passengers between January and August 2026, up 15% on the same stretch of 2025. From January the airport's statistical model began formally counting infants under two years old. Including that group, the cumulative figure rises to 15,953,929 travellers, with the growth rate unchanged at 15%.

In August the airport handled 2,136,052 passenger movements, or 2,145,906 when infants under two are included. That works out at a daily average of about 68,905 passenger movements, with the heaviest flow on Sundays, Mondays and Fridays.

Connecting traffic dominated the month. Transfer passengers made up 74% of the total, or 1,587,692 people travelling onward to other destinations. Arrivals into Panama City numbered 277,653, while 270,707 passengers departed from the country.

On route network, Tocumen kept direct links to 93 international destinations plus one domestic destination during August.

Across the eight-month period, the largest origin and destination markets by passenger volume were Bogotá with 799,639 passengers, Miami with 632,473, and Punta Cana, which the airport listed next with 58,000-plus travellers.
