KM Malta Airlines and SNCF Voyageurs launch combined flight and rail bookings

KM Malta Airlines and the French rail operator SNCF Voyageurs have created a Train + Air partnership. Travellers can now book a flight and a high-speed rail trip in a single transaction.

Bookings are made on the airline's website and mobile app, with both legs sold as one purchase. The rail side covers TGV INOUI and OUIGO services.

Passengers flying into Paris Charles-de-Gaulle can continue by train to 25 destinations in France and to Brussels. The cities listed include Marseille, Bordeaux, Nantes, Rennes, Strasbourg, Lille and Montpellier. A second set of connections runs through Lyon Saint-Exupéry, serving Avignon, Grenoble, Marseille, Montpellier and Nîmes.

According to the airline, if a flight or train leg is disrupted and qualifies under the scheme, it will arrange onward travel at no extra charge, subject to the conditions attached to the offer.

No start date for the combined bookings has been given.

Malta has no land border, so reaching much of Europe by rail normally requires a flight to a hub first. Selling the two legs together puts the carrier's network alongside short-haul rail routes that compete with some short flights. The announcement covers only connections beyond Paris and Lyon rather than replacing existing sectors.
