Lockheed Martin hands over first F-35A for German air force
Lockheed Martin presented Germany's first F-35A in Fort Worth on 18 September, handing the jet over to the German air force, which has ordered 35 of the aircraft.
Lockheed Martin rolled out the first F-35A for the German air force at a ceremony in Fort Worth on 18 September and handed the jet over to Germany. Germany has ordered 35 of the aircraft.
The first eight will stay in the United States for now, and from this autumn they are to be used at Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Arkansas to train German pilots.
The first F-35A are expected in Germany at the end of 2027, with full operational capability planned for 2029. Within the air force the F-35A is to take on tasks currently flown by the ageing Tornado fleet, among others.
