Lufthansa 787 diverts to Baku after satellite communication fault
A Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 flying from Frankfurt to Delhi diverted to Baku after erratic position data triggered a satellite communication check, the airline said.
A Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 flying from Frankfurt to Delhi turned back and landed in Baku on Tuesday, August 25, after the crew noticed problems with the aircraft's transmitted position data.
Flight LH760 was cruising at around 11,900 metres over Turkmenistan when its ADS-B signal began showing wildly inaccurate positions, according to Aviation Herald. At one point the data placed the aircraft over the Caspian Sea.
Airport authorities in Baku attributed the diversion to a technical fault. Lufthansa said the problem stemmed from a disruption in satellite communication, which led the crew to suspend the flight so the relevant systems could be checked on the ground.
The aircraft, registered D-ABPH, landed safely in Baku and was inspected. According to the airline, no irregularities were found. It resumed its journey to Delhi overnight between August 26 and 27, carrying its passengers to their original destination.
No injuries or further complications were reported in connection with the diversion.
