Netherlands commits €45m to fund aimed at boosting SAF use at Schiphol
The Dutch government will contribute €45 million to a fund planned by Schiphol that would pay airlines to burn more sustainable aviation fuel than EU rules require. A planned increase in the Dutch long-haul flight tax will be smaller than first proposed.
The Dutch government is putting 45 million euros into a fund being set up by Schiphol to promote sustainable aviation fuel. The programme is meant to encourage airlines to tank more SAF between 2027 and 2029 than European requirements demand, according to the plan. The fund is intended to reach a total volume of 90 million euros. Approval from the European Commission is still pending.
Separately, a planned increase in the Dutch flight tax for long-haul services will be smaller than initially envisaged. From 2027, flights covering more than 5,500 kilometres are to be charged a rate of 59.43 euros. In setting that level, the Netherlands is aligning itself with Germany.
