P&W to invest $25m in Polish facility expansion

Pratt & Whitney is adding another investment in Poland. The engine maker said on 4 September it will spend $25 million to expand a facility in Niepolomice, near Krakow. The site makes components for commercial and military engines, including the PW1000G geared turbofan and the F135 that powers the F-35. It also builds parts for the PW800, which powers business jets. The expanded operation is expected to be ready in 2028 and create more than 120 jobs.

The Niepolomice expansion follows other moves in Poland. In April, P&W announced a $100 million plan to expand capacity at its Rzeszow site. That project includes a new facility for processing forged parts, with heat treatment, sonic machining and inspection. Rzeszow already makes parts for GTF engines, F135s and F100s.

Parent company RTX says it employs about 9,400 people in Poland, more than in any country except the United States.

P&W has also invested elsewhere this year. In February it said it would spend $200 million to add another forging press at a US plant in Columbus, Georgia. The Columbus investment will expand forging capacity for engine components.

Engine makers have been working to add forging and casting capacity because supply chain constraints have left supplies of cast and forged components tight, slowing engine production.
