Pilots arrested after Citation Latitude crash-lands in Misrata
A brand-new Cessna Citation Latitude ran off the runway and caught fire on landing at Misrata, Libya, with no one injured. Libyan authorities detained the two pilots on suspicion they were under the influence of alcohol.
A Cessna Citation Latitude business jet ran off the runway while landing at Misrata airport in Libya and caught fire, according to a report on the accident. Images described in the account show a largely burned-out wreck with little intact beyond the cockpit. No one was injured in the crash landing.
The aircraft had departed Istanbul Atatürk airport on Monday, 14 September. It was operated by Bikini Jet and carried the registration TC-AKF, and was described as brand new.
Libyan authorities arrested the two pilots on Wednesday, 17 September, according to the report. The crew members are said to be a Turkish national and a German national. Prosecutors cited by the newspaper Arab News said there were indications the pilots had flown the aircraft while intoxicated.
