Three killed in Cirrus SR22 crash in the Swiss Alps
A small aircraft came down on a mountainside near Leukerbad in the canton of Valais on Tuesday, killing all three people on board. Swiss investigators have opened a probe into the cause.
A Cirrus SR22T crashed into a mountainside near Leukerbad in the Swiss canton of Valais on Tuesday, killing all three people on board, according to the aviation publication that reported the accident.
The aircraft had taken off from Lugano and stopped at Sion before heading for the Buochs airfield. Shortly after 16:00 local time it struck the northern slope of the Fluhalp area. What caused the collision has not been established.
Rescue teams arrived at the site with three helicopters. They could confirm only that the three occupants were dead. Work to identify the victims is under way.
The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (Sust) has opened an investigation into the cause of the accident. The Office of the Attorney General is looking into the case alongside the Valais cantonal police.
