Powerbank fire forces evacuation of EasyJet A320 in Milan, airport temporarily halted
An EasyJet Airbus A320 was evacuated at Milan Malpensa after a powerbank in hand luggage filled the cabin with smoke, briefly shutting down the airport and causing two minor injuries.
An EasyJet flight from Milan Malpensa to Prague was evacuated on Thursday evening after smoke developed in the cabin during taxi. All 146 passengers exited the aircraft using emergency slides, and two people sustained minor injuries, according to Italian news agency Ansa. The smoke is believed to have originated from a powerbank in a passenger's hand luggage, based on initial findings.
The aircraft, an Airbus A320 with registration OE-IVS, was taxiing for departure as flight U23905 at around 17:31 local time when the incident occurred. Emergency procedures were activated and the evacuation was carried out. No other injuries were reported.
Airport operations at Malpensa were suspended for about an hour due to the response. Service on one runway resumed around 18:30.
