Private jet runway excursion shuts down Rio's Santos Dumont airport
An Embraer Phenom 300 veered off the runway while landing at Rio de Janeiro-Santos Dumont airport, forcing a temporary shutdown and dozens of flight diversions and cancellations.

An Embraer Phenom 300 business jet ran off the runway while landing at Rio de Janeiro's Santos Dumont airport on Thursday, August 27, and came to rest in a grassy area nearby. Two people were aboard, a pilot and another crew member. Neither was injured, according to the report.
The airport suspended operations so crews could remove the aircraft, registered PS-VEE, from the area. The closure disrupted the airport's schedule significantly.
Dozens of arriving flights were diverted to Rio de Janeiro-Galeão airport. Dozens of scheduled departures were cancelled as well. The busy shuttle route between Rio and São Paulo was among those affected.
Brazil's aviation accident investigation authority, Cenipa, opened an inquiry into the cause of the excursion. No further details on the circumstances of the landing were immediately available.
