Ryanair will shrink its Vienna operation for the coming winter timetable, cutting four aircraft from the base and closing twelve routes. The carrier announced the move in a statement on Wednesday (7 October). It did not say which routes would be affected.

The airline again criticised Austria's aviation tax, which it calls too high, along with Austrian air navigation charges and fees at Vienna Airport. Chief executive Michael O'Leary said the government had not explained "how or for what" it intends to use the 30 million euros it has announced for aviation.

Ryanair and Vienna Airport have clashed before. The winter schedule marks a further reduction of the Irish low-cost carrier's offering in the Austrian capital.
