SAS is marking its 80th anniversary with commemorative flights to New York from Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo.
The route follows the carrier's first flight, on 17 September 1946, when a Douglas DC-4 named Dan Viking flew 28 passengers from Stockholm-Bromma to New York-LaGuardia via Copenhagen, Prestwick and Gander. That trip took 25 hours. Today's direct services take just under eight.
A reception in New York on 18 September is also part of the anniversary.
Alongside the celebrations, SAS pointed to its fleet renewal plans: up to 40 Airbus widebody aircraft and 55 Embraer E195-E2s, plus continued renewal of its Airbus A320neo fleet.
