Storm collapses part of Boeing Wichita building wall
Strong winds brought down part of a roughly 21-metre-high building wall at Boeing's Wichita site in Kansas on Tuesday. No one was injured, according to the Sedgwick County emergency dispatch centre.
Strong winds on Tuesday (15 September) caused parts of a building wall to collapse at Boeing's site in Wichita, Kansas. The wall was about 21 metres high. The Sedgwick County emergency dispatch centre said no one was hurt, according to the Wichita Eagle newspaper.
Shortly before the collapse, the US weather service measured wind speeds of around 121 kilometres per hour at the nearby McConnell Air Force Base. A meteorologist believes strong winds followed by a so-called downburst caused the damage. A downburst is a powerful downward gust from a thunderstorm that spreads out rapidly when it hits the ground.
