Swiss investigation body reports drop in incident notifications
The Swiss Safety Investigation Board (Sust) recorded a sharp fall in reported aviation occurrences after a rule change narrowed which disruptions must be notified. It expects the full effect to show in 2026.

The Swiss Safety Investigation Board, known as Sust, has recorded its first clear decline in reported aviation occurrences. In its new annual report, the body says the number of notifications had risen from 1,260 to 1,952 between 2015 and 2024, with the exception of the coronavirus years. That volume, according to Sust, increasingly weighed on work on investigations already under way.
A revision of the ordinance on the safety investigation of transport occurrences is meant to ease the burden. Since the end of 2025, only serious disruptions must be reported, rather than all disruptions. The number of notifications already fell noticeably towards the end of 2025. Sust expects the full effects of the change to become visible in 2026.
