Swiss seeks around 510,000 francs from Swiss government for hotel costs

The Lufthansa subsidiary is billing the Swiss federal government for hotel stays by aviation security officers, after an internal accounting error left the costs unbilled from 2016 to 2024.

Swiss is asking the Swiss federal government for roughly 510,000 francs (about 530,000 euros) to cover hotel nights for aviation security officers, according to the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper.

The airline, a Lufthansa subsidiary, did not fully invoice the costs between 2016 and 2024 because of an internal accounting error. Swiss reported the error in the third quarter of 2025 and submitted the bill in December.

The Federal Office of Police and the Federal Office of Civil Aviation examined the claim and judged it correct, plausible, lawful and owed. On that basis the Federal Council has requested an additional 700,000 francs for sovereign aviation security measures in the second supplement to the 2026 budget.
