Tallinn airport begins driverless passenger shuttle service without onboard supervisor

An autonomous electric shuttle is now running in regular service at Tallinn Airport without a safety attendant on board, according to its Estonian manufacturer. The company says it is the first such passenger service at a European airport.

An autonomous shuttle is now running in regular service at Tallinn Airport with no safety attendant aboard, according to Estonian manufacturer Auve Tech. The company said it is the first passenger service of its kind at a European airport. Approval was granted in August 2026.

The vehicle is an electric model called Mica, and it carries staff and equipment for the maintenance firm Magnetic MRO. It holds up to eight people. It operates at SAE Level 4 automation, using cameras and lidar sensors to map its surroundings, and a control centre monitors the service and can step in when needed.

Auve Tech has been testing autonomous vehicles at the airport since 2023. On 13 October it demonstrated the unattended operation to representatives from politics and the aviation industry. The manufacturer said similar vehicles could take on other transport jobs at airports in future.
