TAP marks 80 years since its first Lisbon–Madrid scheduled flight
TAP Air Portugal is marking eight decades since its first commercial scheduled service, a Douglas DC-3 flight from Lisbon to Madrid on 19 September 1946.
TAP Air Portugal marked 80 years since its first commercial scheduled flight. A Douglas DC-3 Dakota carried eleven passengers from Lisbon to Madrid on 19 September 1946.
That route remains a core part of the carrier's network. TAP now flies between the two capitals seven times a day, or 49 weekly flights. Passengers arriving from Spain can connect at the Lisbon hub to services to Europe, Africa and the Americas.
To mark the anniversary, the airline surprised travellers on two flights on 19 September with specially designed socks.
According to TAP, it serves twelve destinations in Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga and Valencia. Its summer schedule between Portugal and Spain totals 179 flights a week.
