Turkish carriers suspend Iran flights after tighter US sanctions

Turkish Airlines, Pegasus and AJet have stopped flying to and from Iran since 21 September. The suspensions are linked to tightened US sanctions on Iran's aviation sector, according to Middle East Eye. The three carriers have each removed Iran services from their booking systems.

At Turkish Airlines, no Iran flights can be booked through March 2027. AJet has done the same. Pegasus has taken connections to the country out of its booking system for the foreseeable future.

Whether Turkish Airlines will resume the routes after March is not yet settled. That question remains open.

A person familiar with the matter said the restrictions do not apply only to aircraft built by American manufacturers. Airbus jets are also affected, because of components made in the United States. Those aircraft cannot be used on the routes either, the person said.

Iranian airlines are still permitted to fly to Turkey for now. Mahan Air is the exception.
