US Senate passes two aviation mental health bills
The US Senate has passed two bipartisan bills addressing mental health for pilots and air traffic controllers, aimed at reforming how the FAA handles psychological conditions and medication transparency. The measures still need House approval.
The US Senate has passed two bipartisan bills covering the mental health of pilots and air traffic controllers, according to senators Tammy Duckworth and John Hoeven.
The first, the John A. Hauser Mental Health in Aviation Act, would change how the Federal Aviation Administration deals with mental illness. Its stated aim is to make it easier for affected workers to seek treatment without automatically putting their professional certification at risk.
The second measure, the Aviation Medication Transparency Act, is intended to increase transparency around the medications the FAA accepts.
Both bills must still pass the House of Representatives before they can take effect.
