USAF Says AI Cannot Replace Second Pilot on B-21 Raider
The US Air Force has indicated that artificial intelligence cannot substitute for a second human pilot on the B-21 Raider stealth bomber, even as it prepares the aircraft for initial operating capability.
The US Air Force Global Strike Command is working with Northrop Grumman to get the first B-21 Raider stealth bombers ready for initial operating capability next year. The first example of the sixth-generation aircraft is expected to arrive at Ellsworth Air Force Base in early 2027 to begin active duty.
Little about the aircraft has been released publicly. Only a handful of photos showing test flights over the southwestern United States have been made available. The Air Force stated that artificial intelligence cannot replace a second pilot on the B-21 Raider.
