Vienna Airport spends €10m on staff canteens

Vienna Airport has put roughly ten million euros into feeding the more than 23,000 people employed at the site. Following a Europe-wide tender, the catering provider Eurest now operates four canteens and two food vending machines.

The centrepiece of the new set-up is a canteen that recently opened in the terminal. It covers about 570 square metres and serves hot meals, snacks and drinks daily from 6am to 8pm.

The facilities are open only to staff of the more than 250 companies based at the airport, not to passengers. They offer 845 seats in total. Between 1,800 and 2,200 meals are currently handed out each day. The vending machines extend the offering around the clock, particularly for shift workers.
