Air carrier flight crew reported while holding short of a runway the aircraft nose was over the hold line resulting in ATC directing a go-around for landing traffic.
Narrative
We were assigned a late runway change from the approach control; XXL to vectors for a visual approach XXR. After Exiting runway XXR at 1; the clearance to cross XXL was not clear. We came to a stop and we reconfirm the taxi clearance to cross runway XXL and discover the nose is slightly beyond the line.The tower advised the landing traffic ( 1-2 mile final) to go around and notified us to contact the tower via phone call. The captain contacted the tower and provided the additional information. We debriefed the scenario using our tools.
Second reporter narrative
Late runway change off visual XXL to vectors visual XXR. Upon instruction by tower to exit 1; discussion on clearance to cross XXL was not clear. Came to a stop and notified tower of holding short of XXL and disclosed the nose of the airplane was slightly over the line. They sent traffic on ( estimated ) 1 mile final around and cleared us to cross. Was notified to contact tower on landline via ground on taxi in. Debriefed Tower on the confusion and the nose infraction and apologized for the resulting go around it caused. Debriefed thoroughly w / first officer and commended his monitor/ crosscheck skills.
