2026-01 · NASA ASRS report 2328222
Air carrier Captain reported heavy forces of pitch control check during taxi. Flight continued and landed safely.
After Pushback At ZZZ during the After Start Flow while doing the flight control check I noticed the Yolk was a bit heavy while pulling back but indications were normal. I asked my FO to see if he felt the same and he said yes slightly. Fleet wise the 757-300 is known to be nose heavy and does require slightly more force to pitch up. My FO and I both agreed it was slightly heavy but not to the point we were concerned about airworthiness of safety of flight. During the rotation and climb I noticed higher than normal forced required to maintain the desired flight path; and got a slight descent rate at 2200 feet AGL of around -300 FPM; I quickly used both hands and corrected it. The rest of the climb and cruise phase went uneventful hence we decided to continue to ZZZ1 as there were no indications of any abnormalities. During the arrival into ZZZ1 on the FMS Visual XXR while hand flying I noticed a slightly higher force required to pitch up; keeping this in mind I decided to delay thrust reduction/use thrust to help with my flare if I needed to. During the flare I was unable to reach my desired flare pitch attitude due to the stiffness on the yolk this led to me using some thrust to reduce my sink rate. I brought the engines to idle and had a safe touchdown within limits . Taxi and parking was uneventful. I made an ELB (Electronic Log Book) entry; spoke to Local MX (Maintenance) and Maintenance Control. The airplane was placed OOS (Out of Service) For a hydraulic actuator being broken.
