Introduction
On 24 September 2022 at approximately 18:00 local time, a Piper PA-38-112, registration YU-DPV, operated by A. K. 'Ivan Sarić' from Subotica, was involved in an accident near 'Bikovo' aerodrome in Subotica. The aircraft was on a landing phase with two persons on board.
Sequence of Events
During the approach, at about 300 feet above ground, the engine began to misfire. The pilot-passenger took control of the aircraft and attempted to stabilize the engine and restart it after it stopped. Unable to restart, the pilot-passenger decided to perform an off-airport landing on a cultivated field. The aircraft struck the ground with a high sink rate and came to a stop after traveling 45-50 meters.
Injuries and Damage
Both occupants, the pilot and the pilot-passenger, sustained minor injuries. No fatalities occurred. The aircraft sustained substantial damage, including damage to the main landing gear wheels, lower fuselage, both propeller blades, and both wings.
