Accident Sequence
On 21 April 2023 at 14:15 local time, a pilot flying an Ozone Enzo 3 paraglider took off from a start site near the village of Koritnjak, Niška Banja municipality, city of Niš, Serbia. The pilot had previously flown a tandem paraglider from the same site earlier that day. After the wind changed to westerly, the pilot moved to a western start. After waiting for a thermal gust to pass, the pilot took off, raised the wing without problem, turned into wind, and flew straight about 30 meters. The paraglider then entered a right asymmetric collapse, immediately followed by a left asymmetric collapse. The wing moved backwards at high speed and entered a left spiral, making two full circles with rapid height loss. The paraglider impacted rocky ground.
Injuries and Damage
The pilot, the sole occupant, died as a result of the impact. The paraglider sustained minor damage to the wing fabric, lines, and harness.
Weather Conditions
Weather conditions included a wind change to westerly and thermic activity.
