Introduction

On 15 September 2019, at 16:51 local time, a paraglider pilot was fatally injured during a recreational flight in the wider area of Alykes Mesolongiou. The pilot was part of a group of three sports aviators. The weather was good, with wind from the West at 8-10 km/h. The aircraft was a paraglider, operated by a private individual. There was one person on board.

Flight Sequence

The group planned a recreational flight. The fatally injured pilot took off second in order. After a short flight of about 10 minutes, he landed near the predetermined point. After landing, he was heard via his radio saying "I fell, ... I hit". The injured pilot also said "Why did this happen to me?" and later "I had a collapse ... spiral".

Aftermath

After a few minutes, an ambulance arrived and transported the injured pilot to the General Hospital of Mesolongi. The pilot sustained fatal injuries (1 fatality). The aircraft damage was significant.
