Incident Overview
On 26 June 2014, at approximately 16:25 local time, a PZL M-18 Dromader aircraft, registration YU-BNG, operated by JAT-Privredna avijacija d.o.o., was involved in an incident during takeoff at Airport Lisičiji Jarak, Belgrade. The flight was a training mission for a student pilot preparing for solo flight. There was one person on board; no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Sequence of Events
The training session began with preparations on the apron and a briefing by the instructor. The student pilot taxied to the grass runway and performed an initial takeoff roll with tail lift but without becoming airborne, as planned. The first circuit was completed without issues. After landing from the second circuit, the student pilot held the aircraft with brakes and, upon the instructor's command, proceeded to the takeoff roll by adding full power and raising the tail. However, the aircraft did not gain sufficient acceleration, and the tail continued to rise, causing the propeller to strike the ground while the engine was at full power. The aircraft then slid on its nose, with the propeller digging into the grass runway, before coming to rest leaning on the propeller, forward fuselage, and engine, with the tail elevated.
Aircraft Damage
The propeller and engine sustained significant damage. Minor damage occurred to the lower forward section (nose) and the oil cooler, which made contact with the ground during the stop. The propeller and engine required replacement.
Weather Conditions
Meteorological conditions at the time were temperature 23°C, relative humidity approximately 50%, pressure 999 mb, wind from the north up to 2.4 m/s, and cloud cover 6/10. These conditions were favorable for the planned operations.
