Aircraft crashes shortly after takeoff during low-altitude maneuver (N3802E)

What happened

Following takeoff with an initial heading to the south, the aircraft was observed climbing to an altitude of approximately 300 feet above ground level. Shortly after reaching this altitude, the pilot initiated a turn toward the southwest. Power settings were reduced during this maneuver. Within a distance of three to five miles from the departure point, the aircraft was turned back toward the airstrip for an approach.

While approaching the airstrip at an altitude of about 500 feet above ground level, the aircraft banked sharply to the left. This maneuver led directly into a steep descent, resulting in a crash near the airfield.
