Incident
A pilot reported an accident involving a landing and subsequent go-around on an unlit runway at dusk. The aircraft struck multiple fences and other objects after the go-around was initiated.
Sequence of Events
The pilot stated that he entered a left traffic pattern for landing on runway 15 at dusk. Due to being unable to see a 400-ft TV tower located near the base leg, he kept his base leg closer in and higher than normal. During the landing flare, the indicated airspeed appeared normal, but the ground speed seemed higher than normal, possibly due to a wind shift. The aircraft touched down approximately 800 to 1000 ft past the approach end of the runway. A go-around was initiated, but the landing gear struck a fence near the departure end of the runway. Subsequently, the aircraft hit a second fence, a cultivator, and a third fence before sliding over two terraces and coming to a stop.
Obstruction and Runway Lighting
The TV tower in the vicinity was not lighted due to a lack of maintenance of its obstruction lights. The runway itself was not lighted.
