Incident Details
The aircraft was operating in a practice area southwest of Melbourne, Florida, conducting commercial flight check maneuvers for approximately one hour. According to the pilot, after completing the maneuvers, he circled a lake once at an altitude of 1,000 feet above ground level (AGL) and then headed toward Melbourne. As he applied power to climb to a higher altitude, the engine quit.
Emergency Landing
The pilot attempted to restart the engine but was unsuccessful. He then executed an emergency landing in a plowed field. The landing resulted in minor damage to the nose gear and the lower engine cowl. Following necessary repairs, the aircraft was flown out of the field.
Investigation
An examination of the engine revealed no discrepancies. The cause of the power loss was not determined.
