Event Description
During the landing approach, Fort Wayne air traffic control (ATC) advised the crew of the runway conditions. The runway, which is 150 feet wide, had been plowed to a width of 140 feet, leaving 18-inch-high snow windrows on each side. Additionally, the runway was reported to be 40 percent covered with finger drifts. The wind was from 010 degrees at 15 knots with gusts.
The pilot stated that after touchdown, the aircraft began to drift to the right. The drift continued until the right main landing gear made contact with a snow windrow. Following the contact, the nose gear collapsed. The aircraft then veered across the runway and came to rest off the left side of Runway 04.
