Incident Overview
While circling in the vicinity of the pilot's residence, the aircraft suffered a complete loss of engine power. The pilot initiated an emergency landing, during which the aircraft stalled as the pilot attempted to avoid colliding with an automobile on the ground.
Damage and Injuries
Both the aircraft and the automobile sustained substantial damage. However, the two occupants of the aircraft and the driver of the automobile were uninjured.
Investigation Findings
A post-accident inspection found no physical evidence that could explain the cause of the engine failure. The pilot attributed the power loss to carburetor icing. At the time of the incident, the temperature was 72 degrees Fahrenheit, and the dew point was 71 degrees Fahrenheit.
