Sequence of Events
The pilot step taxied the float plane to the northern end of Neil Lake in preparation for a southward takeoff. As the aircraft approached the north shore, the pilot initiated a left step turn to position the aircraft toward the south for takeoff. During the turn, while the aircraft was still on a northerly heading, it lifted off the water.
Accident Details
In an attempt to continue the takeoff following the uncommanded lift-off, the right float struck the tops of two trees. Subsequently, the aircraft crashed and began burning.
