Location of Wreckage
Portions of the aircraft's right wing were discovered north of Highway 70 in remote, rugged mountainous terrain near Belden, California. The remaining wreckage was found approximately 2 miles south of the highway, on the east side of Fern Creek Canyon, at an elevation of about 5,000 feet.
Weather Conditions
A weather study prepared by the National Transportation Safety Board indicated that weather conditions over northern California were characterized by overcast skies and rain showers. Light to occasionally moderate rain showers were reported throughout the eastern side of the Sacramento Valley and the western Sierra Nevada mountains. Forecasts had predicted that the mountains would be generally obscured along the aircraft's route of flight.
Investigation
Investigators have documented the debris field and are continuing to examine the site. No further details about the aircraft or the circumstances of the event have been released.
