Incident Overview
During a descent from 10,000 feet to 8,000 feet, the engine ceased operation. The pilot reported that fuel was above the red arc and that no steep or sharp maneuvers were conducted. The rate of descent and deck angle during the descent were not mentioned.
Sequence of Events
The pilot initiated the forced landing by circling to the right, as usable fuel was in the right tank. The landing gear was extended and full flaps were set for landing. The landing was hard, resulting in the collapse of the right main landing gear and the nose gear. The aircraft remained upright.
Fuel Situation
Fuel drained from the aircraft after the incident measured two to three gallons total from both tanks. Specifically, less than one gallon was drained from the left tank, and less than two gallons from the right tank. At initial departure, the left tank fuel indication was zero, while the right tank indicated three-quarters full.
Landing
The forced landing was completed with gear down and full flaps. The hard landing caused structural damage to the landing gear, but the aircraft remained upright.
