Pilot and Witness Accounts
The pilot stated that the approach was slightly high and fast. Upon touchdown, the right tire blew out. To maintain directional control, the pilot added power but was unable to bring the aircraft to a stop before the runway end. Witnesses, however, reported that the aircraft touched down at a fast speed and too far along the runway. According to the witnesses, one of the tires blew out after the aircraft had already begun skidding. The aircraft subsequently departed the runway surface, struck a fence, and came to a stop.
