Flight and Communications
The pilot departed at 0642 CDT. At 0645, the pilot reported level at 4,000 ft MSL. At 0659:08, the pilot reported encountering icing conditions and requested a climb to 6,000 ft. After switching from TRACON to Center frequency at 0700:16, the pilot was cleared as requested. At 0700:37, the pilot stated that he thought he would have to descend. The controller was unable to approve a lower altitude on course but cleared the pilot for a turn (to reverse course) and a descent to 3,000 ft. No further radio transmissions were received from the aircraft after that point.
