Event Details
During the takeoff roll, the pilot applied back pressure to raise the nose but found the aircraft sluggish. He then released some back pressure to accelerate. Shortly after, a loud metallic bang was heard, accompanied by a vibration in the front of the aircraft. The pilot decided to abort the takeoff but could not stop on the remaining runway. At the runway end, he turned left onto a taxiway and run-up area. Approximately 15 to 20 feet beyond the run-up area, the nose gear and right main gear struck concrete pads, resulting in damage.
Pilot Actions
The pilot's initial attempt to lift the nose was met with a sluggish response, prompting him to reduce back pressure to gain airspeed. Upon hearing the loud bang and feeling vibration, he immediately aborted the takeoff. Despite his efforts to stop, the aircraft overran the runway. He steered left to avoid the overrun area, but the gear subsequently contacted concrete pads.
Post-Event Inspection
An inspection of the aircraft found no apparent reason for the noise that occurred during the takeoff roll. The airport elevation is 5,023 feet. No other anomalies were identified.
