Accident Details
A dual instructional flight involved an aircraft taking off on skis from a taxiway, which had more snow than the runway. The snow conditions were described as wet, sparse, and sticky. The student pilot was at the controls.
Sequence of Events
During the takeoff attempt, the student rotated prematurely, causing the aircraft to stall and settle back onto the snow. The takeoff was continued, and after a second lift-off, the aircraft again entered a stall. At that point, the certified flight instructor (CFI) took over control.
The CFI lowered the nose to gain airspeed and turned to avoid trees. During this maneuver, the aircraft's wing struck a telephone pole. The impact caused the aircraft to cartwheel, resulting in damage beyond economical repair.
