Incident Overview
A student pilot was conducting a solo flight when the nose gear of the aircraft collapsed during landing. Prior to the solo flight, the student and a certified flight instructor (CFI) completed a dual instructional flight, during which some airwork and three landings were performed.
Sequence of Events
After the CFI exited the aircraft, the student attempted the first solo landing. That landing was nose-first, resulting in a bounce, and the student executed a go-around. The same scenario—a nose-first landing with a bounce and a go-around—occurred two more times, for a total of three such events.
During these events, the air traffic control tower contacted the CFI. The CFI was en route to the tower, and the tower instructed the student to orbit until the instructor arrived. In response, the student pilot stated that he did not need any help.
Final Landing and Gear Collapse
The student then proceeded with a fourth landing. This landing was also nose-first, and it caused the nose landing gear to collapse.
