Event Sequence
On final approach to land, the pilot observed two buzzards and added power while maneuvering to avoid them, then continued the approach. As a result, the aircraft landed beyond the intended touchdown point. The runway had a convex profile with the middle higher than either end; therefore, the pilot was unable to see a large canine moving toward the landing area until the aircraft was about halfway down the runway.
A go-around was initiated, but as the landing gear was retracted, the wheels contacted treetops near the end of the runway. The aircraft subsequently flew through additional trees and came to rest in a milo field approximately 250 yards from the initial tree impact.
Aftermath
The aircraft came to rest in a milo field. The sequence of events included bird avoidance, an extended landing, delayed detection of an animal on the runway, and a go-around that resulted in contact with trees.
