Flight and Maneuver
Two rear-seat passengers reported that the aircraft flew up a canyon at an altitude of approximately 6500 feet mean sea level. The ridges on either side of the canyon were as high as the aircraft. The pilot was observed looking from side to side before lowering the flaps, applying power, and initiating a turn. The pilot later reported that during the turn, the aircraft began to stall and a recovery was executed.
Collision and Aftermath
After the stall recovery, the pilot maneuvered through trees. The aircraft struck the terrain, bounced, struck again, and came to rest inverted. A fire broke out following the collision. The passengers assisted the front-seat occupants in escaping the aircraft.
