What happened
The aircraft overran the end of the runway and collided with a ditch during the landing phase. According to the pilot, the aircraft touched down approximately 500 yards down the runway. At the moment of touchdown, the indicated airspeed was recorded at 100 knots. Despite the available runway length of 5,500 feet, braking efforts were insufficient to bring the aircraft to a stop before it exited the paved surface.
A witness reported that the aircraft landed roughly halfway down the runway. The witness also noted that smoke was visible from the brakes during the roll-out, indicating significant brake usage and heat buildup as the pilot attempted to slow the aircraft on the remaining distance.
