Incident Overview
On a dark night, a pilot arrived at an airport and flew past it. After receiving a direction-finding (DF) steer, he observed the airport environment and descended to land on Runway 8 Right (RWY 8R). The initial approach was high, prompting him to circle while descending toward the airport. During this maneuver, he lost sight of the runway and did not realize he was not aligned with the intended landing area until reaching a very low altitude.
Approach and Landing
The pilot then initiated a go-around and raised the flaps. Subsequently, the aircraft touched down beside Runway 14/32 while on a southerly heading. The impact point was to the right of Runway 8R. According to the pilot, the aircraft stalled after he raised the flaps.
Runway Lighting Conditions
Runway 8R was lighted, while Runways 8 Left (8L) and 14/32 were unlighted at the time of the incident.
